Your Teacher Said What?! That’s exactly what members of a school board in Canada were asking recently. (It’s also the title of my book in case you forgot!)

It all happened in Prince Rupert, Canada where teachers are in the middle of a bitter labor dispute. They wanted to use a quote from a Dr. Seuss book, Yertle the Turtle, as a statement of their own situation. 

I know you on top you are seeing great sights, but down here on the bottom, we too should have rights.

The school district did not ban the book but said the quote is not allowed to be used in school to make a political statement. A CBC Community Blog reported that school district official Dave Stignant said that his decision was based on an arbitrator’s ruling last November that put a student’s right to learn in an environment free from political messages ahead of a teacher’s rights to freedom of expression.

Sounds like our neighbors to the north just might be on to something….
