The Mini Market

Apple is making big news, this time about something small.

It’s the iPad mini. It’s got a smaller screen (7.9 inches vs 9.7 inches) and a smaller price tag than the iPad, but other than that it’s pretty much the same. But it’s new, which in the case of hi-tech and teenagers, that means it could be better.

Apple is hoping the iPad mini becomes a player in the smaller-sized tablet market. Competitors include the Google Nexus 7 and the Kindle Fire, but those tablets are priced at $199, far less than the IPad mini’s $329 price tag.

Pre-orders for the mini start tomorrow. Apple expects to sell 5 to 7 million iPad minis in November and December.  Just in time for the holidays.

And Apple isn’t done making news yet, earnings are expected later today.
