In case you’re looking at all the angles to figure out which candidate is going to win in November, here’s one you may have missed. It’s the Official Cup Count happening at an East Hampton store called the Monogram Shop.

The 16-ounce plastic cups are mongrammed with Romney Ryan 2012 or Obama Biden 2012 and sell for $3 each. In the past two elections, sales of the cups have predicted the winner. In 2008, sales of Obama Biden were ahead the entire time. In 2004, sales of Kerry Edwards cups were in the lead until Bush Cheney moved ahead in the fall.

As of 5pm Tuesday, Romney Ryan 2012 cups were in the lead with 2,754 sold compared to 2,496 for Obama Biden 2012. (The picture above is an earlier count).

But before you look at your glass (or cup in this case) half full or half empty, store owner Valerie Smith says it’s too soon to call, and will have to wait to after the conventions to predict the winner.
