McDonald’s: The Fast Food Slowdown

McDonald’s posted weaker than expected same store sales and it sure surprised me.
I’m going to let you in on a little family secret right now, we love McDonald’s. You probably do too, millions of people do, that’s why it’s the largest restaurant chain on the planet.
Go figure, same store sales for the month of July were flat. Down in the U.S., Europe, Asia and Africa. Sales were only up in Canada and Latin America. This is the first time since April 2003 that overall monthly sales have not grown at McDonald’s. Sales are being hit by a rough economy and increased competition.
But, if you visit a McDonald’s in Europe, it sure doesn’t seem that sales are down. Yes, we went to McDonald’s on our European vacation. We visited McDonald’s in Rome (pictured), Florence, Venice and Paris. And every one of them was packed with people. Not Americans but European people. All enjoying their Big Macs and fries, courtesy of the great American corporation McDonald’s.
McDonald’s CEO Don Thompson says he’s confident the company will build sales over the long term. Well, he sure can count on the Kernen Family to boost our share of sales:)
Peace Love Profits,
